Each set includes two silk floss spools (33 yards / 30 meters each) and one refillable glass container. The floss is made from pure silk thread coated in candelilla wax — a plant-derived wax sourced from the candelilla shrub — with no added flavoring, synthetic coatings, or chemical additives of any kind. The glass container is designed to be refilled with each new spool, eliminating the plastic waste that comes with conventional floss packaging entirely. Both the product and its packaging are 100% home compostable.
Most conventional dental floss is made from nylon or PTFE — a plastic closely related to the same fluorinated compounds found in non-stick cookware — and is coated in synthetic wax, artificial flavoring, and chemical additives that go directly into your mouth and gum tissue with every use. This floss replaces all of that with two ingredients: silk and plant wax. Nothing else.
Conventional dental floss is one of the most overlooked sources of daily chemical exposure in personal care. PTFE-based flosses have been associated with elevated levels of fluorinated compounds in the body. Synthetic wax coatings and artificial flavors add further chemical load to tissue that is highly absorbent — the gum line is one of the fastest pathways into the bloodstream in the entire body.
Silk is a natural protein fiber that is gentle on gum tissue, biodegrades completely, and carries no synthetic chemical residue. Candelilla wax is a plant-based alternative to the petroleum and synthetic waxes used in conventional floss — it provides the same smooth glide without the chemical footprint. The glass container eliminates the plastic dispenser that most floss comes in, which is neither recyclable nor compostable in most municipalities.

Pull approximately 18 inches of floss from the container. Wind the majority around the middle fingers of each hand, leaving an inch or two to work with between them. Slide gently between teeth using a back-and-forth motion rather than snapping down into the gumline. Curve the floss around each tooth and guide it just beneath the gumline. Use a fresh section of floss as you move from tooth to tooth.
When the spool is finished, drop the spent floss directly into a home compost bin — silk and candelilla wax break down completely in a home composting environment.
