These candle holders are handcrafted in a small studio on the seacoast of Maine by a team of local craftspeople who have spent years working with stone found along the New England shoreline. Every piece begins with a raw, ocean-tumbled rock selected by hand for its shape, texture, and natural character. No two stones are alike — the color, pattern, and form of each piece is entirely determined by nature. Drilling is done with diamond drill bits and water, preserving the stone's integrity without the use of synthetic treatments, coatings, lacquers, or dyes. The result is a functional object that is also a genuine piece of the natural world.
The Three Styles
Tealight Rock — A low-profile stone cut flat on the bottom and drilled to create a perfectly countersunk opening that accepts one standard tealight candle slightly inset into the rock. The flat base keeps the holder stable on any surface. Tealight not included. Stones vary in shape, size, and color and may not appear exactly as shown.
Silhouette Taper — A sculptural stone shaped and finished to hold a single standard tapered candlestick. The silhouette style leans into the natural form of the stone — each piece reads as both a candle holder and a decorative object in its own right. Best displayed in groups of three or more to show the natural variation across stones. Fits standard tapered candlesticks. Candlesticks not included. Stones vary in shape, size, color, and texture and may not appear exactly as shown.
Single Taper — A naturally tumbled ocean or river stone approximately 2 inches tall, drilled to fit a standard ¾-inch tapered candlestick. Simple, grounded, and beautiful in multiples. Works equally well indoors and outdoors — on a mantel, desk, nightstand, or dining table. Best displayed in groupings to let the natural variation of the stones create its own focal point. Candlestick not included. Stones vary in shape, size, color, texture, and weight and may not appear exactly as shown.
Conventional home décor objects — including many candle holders — are routinely coated with lacquers, varnishes, and synthetic sealants that off-gas into the air of your home, particularly when exposed to heat from a candle flame. These holders carry none of that. Every stone leaves the studio exactly as it came from the beach: raw, uncoated, and chemically inert.
The stones are sourced from the natural shoreline environment of coastal Maine — shaped by ocean water and time, not by industrial processes. No mined synthetics, no petroleum-based finishes, no plastic components. When you light a candle in one of these holders, the only thing between you and the flame is stone.
These holders require no maintenance and no special treatment. Stone does not absorb odors, does not degrade with heat, and does not require sealing or conditioning.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth as needed. The natural surface of raw stone may darken slightly when wet and will return to its natural appearance as it dries — this is normal and does not indicate damage.
For the tealight styles, use standard tealight candles in metal cups only — do not place an unwrapped candle directly in the stone opening. Never leave burning candles unattended. Keep away from flammable materials.
For the taper styles, use candles that fit the opening without forcing. Standard ¾-inch tapered candlesticks fit the Single Taper. Dripping wax can be removed once cooled by gently lifting or flaking — do not use solvents or cleaning chemicals on the stone surface.
Because each stone is unique, slight variation in opening size, depth, and fit is natural and expected.
