Product Details

Most cod sold today is farm fish. Wild cod creates a more healthy home and if fished responsibly also a more healthy planet!

This wild Alaskan cod comes from the most diligent-minded NorthStar Bison family! They found a group of friends from Wisconsin, Montana and Pennsylvania who travel to Alaska for 6 weeks of the year as a hobby. They use a method of fishing called long lining where they bait, cast and reel in a long line. This method is responsible for the planet, the fish and the consumer but not a good method to catch a lot of fish. That's why most wild cod sold today uses the drag net method harming the fish, the ocean floor and killing other fish.

Once again, the family-owned NorthStar Bison provides the most impeccable and nutrient-dense product to help you create your healthy home and preserve Alaska and the planet!

-100% wild

-frozen within 12 hours

-skinless

-long-lining fishing method

-sustainably and responsibly caught

-caught humanely in some of the cleanest waters off the coast of Alaska

Did you know wild cod is one of the most prolific and stable wild fish populations in the ocean making it more affordable, plentiful and sustainable?

Wild Alaskan cod is also considered a nutrient-dense food because it contains many beneficial nutrients in a small amount of calories:

- a whopping 20 grams of high quality protein in only 85 calories

- a good source of several B vitamins essential for your health including metabolizing nutrients and releasing energy from food

- a 3 oz serving of cooked cod provides over 30% of daily requirements for B12 which helps form red blood cells and DNA

- good sources of B6 and niacin which are necessary for hundreds of significant chemical reactions in your body

- in addition to important vitamins, cod also provides several important minerals including phosphorus and selenium

- phosphorus is a critical component of bones and plays a role in the proper function of some B vitamins (3 oz portion gives you 20% or more your daily requirement of phosphorus)

- selenium helps make and protect your DNA (3 oz portion gives you 40% or more your daily requirement of selenium)

In general, fish consumption is associated with a variety of health benefits, including lower heart disease risk and brain function support.

NOTE: Wild cod is lower in omega-3 fatty acids than fatty fish like salmon. Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon provide many healthy benefits.

Wild cod is also lower in mercury (which can CAUSE health problems) than fish species that are larger, have longer lifespans and are higher on the food chain (shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish, orange roughy, and marlin). Common fish like tuna, halibut and bass also contain mercury. Wild cod is lower in mercury than all of these fish making it a better choice for those avoiding toxins.
